Although 21 contractors took interest, just one applied and came in 50 percent over the borough's anticipated $8.5 million costs, reports northjersery.com.

The final phase for Veterans Field is the installation of amenities including baseball and softball fields, an all purpose field, tennis courts, a band shell, walking path, parking area and spray park, reports northjersery.com.

The borough is soliciting bids again and hopes to reopen the field, which has been closed since 2011, by Labor Day, reports northjersery.com.
