Alexander Delbert, 20, kicked in the door of an apartment after the two, spotting him pull up, went inside, Police Chief Richard Gaito told Daily Voice.

Delbert then assaulted the woman, smashed her cellphone on the floor and chased the man, who'd climbed out a rear window, Gaito said.

Using his keys, he scratched the man's car before fleeing, the chief said.

Police contacted Delbert and ordered him to return to the scene, where he was taken into custody on charges of assault, theft and criminal mischief, Gaito said.

Delbert spent two days in the Bergen County Jail before posting bail Wednesday, records show.
