A gift for Kim Montelaro

EDITOR’S NOTE: Earlier this month, Kim Montelaro’s parents and brother appealed to the New Jersey Parole Board to keep the man who raped and killed her locked up for life. It had to overwhelm them, yet somehow these courageous people sat there and relived the horror — again. No decision has been reached whether Christopher Righetti should be paroled next month. But that is not what this story is about….Happy Birthday, Kim.

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Montelaro Family,

Today, August 21, is Kim Montelaro’s birthday.

Too often, when a loved one dies, especially through violent or unpleasant circumstances, those who are left behind find themselves focusing on the manner in which the person died, rather than on the way in which they lived.  I think that is a tragedy.

Kim Montelaro was a beautiful, intelligent, promising young lady who touched everyone she met with her kindness and warmth.  We should remember her for the wonderful person that she was in her 20 years of life, not for the one horrible day on which she died.

Please keep the Montelaro Family in your thoughts today. And, if you were fortunate enough to know Kim when she was alive, take a moment to conjure up one of your happy memories of her.  I think that’s the best gift that we can give her today.

Thank you,

Bob Schroeder
