But the 8-year-old's resolution lives on, as a group of local moms raised funds to purchase 10 guitars, cases, a stand and tuners, which they will be donating to the library next month.
The dedication ceremony will be at 4 p.m. on Dec. 5, at the Edgewater Public Library.
The instruments will be available to children and adults participating in the library's free guitar class.
Mellie's New Year's resolution — which she wrote down as an assignment in her 2nd grade classroom — and drawings will adorn the walls.
