Former Cliffside Park Woman Stages Sober Parties

DUMONT, N.J.. — A former Cliffside Park and Edgewater resident is hoping to get more people attracted to her alcohol-free parties.

Sober social party planner Lynn Earley of Dumont, and formerly of Cliffside Park and Edgewater, is looking to host more events, minus the alcohol.

Lynn Earley, 66, of Dumont is celebrating nearly three decades of sobriety and has been arranging "Smart Parties" in New York and New Jersey throughout her addiction.

The idea is to bring people together who would rather not spend social gatherings under the influence of alcohol.

Her biggest challenge, she said, is finding places to host a pop-up party, or venue that supports non-alcohol parties.

“Someone that comes out of rehab, where are they going to go?" Earley said. "AA isn’t a party. You go there to get help. The events are just not there."

Expenses to run socials, between food and rental halls, run high, she says.

“I’m hoping to get Britney Spears or even Justin Bieber -- I’m going to go after him, because his album is called 'Purpose.'

“I have the same birthday as Taylor Swift,” she said. “She’s the kind of person that would love something like this. I want her to have a party like this."

Earley is looking for new places to stage her "Smart Parties" for her more than 1,000 followers — not all of who abstain from alcohol.
