And now the Conshohocken, PA-based company, with nearly 100 different locations in 13 states and two countries, is eyeing expansion into Bergen and Passaic Counties.

There are already three Saladworks in the area --  two in Wayne and one in East Rutherford -- but if all goes according to plan, Paramus and Clifton may be next. They are among two Northern New Jersey towns the company is looking at (potential franchisees should get in touch).

"Consumers are increasingly looking for healthier alternatives," said Patrick Sugrue, Saladworks president and CEO. "They want a good clean meal they can feel good about."

To that end, he said there's a movement toward a more plant-based diet with vegetables front and center, as opposed to simply being a garnish on the side.

With Saladworks, he added, diners have 60 different items to choose from so they can make their salad just the way they want it. It's then assembled in two and a half minutes in an environment where you can plug in your phone, access the WiFi and enjoy your meal.

A new app is expected to roll out later this year.
