Brandon Mitchell, 38, and Allyson Mitchell, 34, both of Hewitt, were arrested in Oakland when they tried to sell stolen jewelry, said West Milford Police Chief Timothy Storbeck.

Noting similarities in four burglaries over more than two weeks in the Hewitt section of West Milford and Ringwood, detectives from both jurisdictions got together to work the case.

Concerned citizens told them about a gray Honda Civic and a suspicious couple seen in the area of the initial break-in on Oct. 4, Storbeck said.

Ringwood Detective Joseph Longo and West Milford Detectives Eric Darnsteadt and Michael Malfetti found the car and began watching it -- and the Mitchells, the chief said.

They followed the pair to Oakland, where Brandon Mitchell was trying to hock jewelry stolen in a Hewitt burglary that hadn't yet been reported, he said.

As Longo and Malfetti moved in on him, Darnsteadt confronted Allyson Mitchell, who was waiting outside.

She was carrying more stolen proceeds, along with latex gloves and burglary tools. the chief said.

Both were taken into custody and charged with five counts each of burglary, theft and criminal mischief pending an appearance in Superior Court in Paterson.
