Wayne PD: Drunken Garfield Man Goes On Rampage At Bar, Police HQ, In Cell

WAYNE, N.J. -- A drunken patron from Garfield who blew cigarette smoke in a Wayne police officer's face after he was ejected from Mother's Ale House showed up at police headquarters and went on a rampage -- then ripped off his clothing, bit and ripped a padded bunk mattress and urinated on the floor of a holding cell after being arrested, authorities said.

It began just after 12:30 a.m. Friday when police received a disorderly persons call from security at the Mountain View Boulevard nightspot, Capt. Laurence Martin said.

Employees told the officers that they'd asked a "highly intoxicated" Anthony Daddio, 26, of Garfield to leave but that he refused, Martin said.

As they escorted him out, Daddio "started to yell and make a scene," he said.

Employees later found him still in the parking lot, "smoking a cigarette and creating a disturbance about being thrown out," while demanding to see the credentials of the entire security staff, including business cards, the captain said.

A responding police lieutenant tried calming him down, but Daddio "wanted complaints signed against the bar for refusing him service," he said.

Daddio walked "directly and purposely" up to the lieutenant with the cigarette in his hand, then blew smoke in the officer's face and scramed "uncontrollably" within six inches of his face, Martin said.

The lieutenant asked Daddio to step away, but he refused, the captain said.

At that moment, he said, one of Daddio's friend "came outside, wanted nothing to do with him but agreed to call for an Uber ride for him."

Daddio "continued to demand 'certifications' and business cards from random people while making wild accusations," Martin said.

Daddio "wanted complaints signed against Mother's security for refusing him service and removing him from the business" and "was advised that he could do so on his own," the captain said.

An Uber driver picked up Daddio, "who had no signs of physical injury," his clothing intact, when he left, he said.

Around 1:15 a.m., Daddio showed up at the back door of police headquarters and tried to break in, "screaming and yelling pounding his fists against the security doors and windows," Martin said.

The Uber driver apparently dropped him off there, he said.

Daddio was "screaming and demanding to file charges against the staff at Mothers and all officers involved in his removal from that premises," Martin said.

One of the officers responded to headquarters and identified Daddio from the previous incident. The "disorderly activity continued with Daddio demanding to sign complaints, screaming and cursing demanding to be locked up," the captain said.

Then Daddio "lunged at the officers, resulting in him being arrested and brought into headquarters" -- where Martin said, "he continued his violent, irrational behavior and was placed in secure observation area for his safety and the safety of all involved."

In the cellblock, Daddio "ripped off his clothing and began abusing himself, at one point attempting to bite and rip the padded mattress on the bunk," the captain said.

He was also "urinating on the cell floor and screaming irrationally," he said.

Police processed Daddio on disorderly charges and took him to St. Joseph's Hospital in Wayne "for his psychological welfare," the captain said.
