Seen HIM? Accused Car Burglar Wanted In Glen Rock, Fair Lawn, Ho-Ho-Kus

GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- Covering his face with a cloth while trying to buy gift cards with a stolen credit card didn't help a Bronx man accused of a series of thefts in Glen Rock, Ho-Ho-Kus and Fair Lawn, authorities said Monday.

John F. Clarke, 54, was being sought by police from all three towns, Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.

Ho-Ho-Kus police obtained surveillance images of Clarke and his car, which Ackermann said had "specific markings and stickers on it."

Clarke was known to police, having been arrested in 2013 for stealing and using credit cards from a car he'd burglarized outside the Hamilton School -- the site of a similar incident on May 21, the chief said.

In the recent incident, he said, "two credit cards and cash were removed from the victim’s wallet, which was left in an unlocked vehicle, and one of the credit cards was used at the CVS in Fair Lawn."

Clarke "concealed his face with a white cloth while in the store, attempting to purchase gift cards with the stolen credit card," Ackermann said. "It was later determined that the both the HoHoKus and Fair Lawn police departments were investigating the same suspect for credit card fraud cases in their jurisdictions."

Anyone who sees Clarke, or knows where to find him, is asked to call police from any of the three towns.
