Andrew Chung, 18, was taken into custody by officers responding to the head-on crash at the corner of Palisade and Lawton avenues just after 7 p.m. Thursday, Cliffside Park Police Chief Rich Gaito told Daily Voice on Friday.

They also seized marijuana and drug paraphernalia, he said.

Chung was taken to Palisades Medical Center, where he consented to providing blood and urine samples that were sent to the New Jersey State Police lab for analysis, Gaito said.

Chung remained held on $5,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with possession of drugs and paraphernalia, as well as with taking a vehicle without the owner's permission. Police also issued him several summonses for offenses that include DWI.

Two 27-year-old North Bergen men in the car struck head-on weren't injured, the chief said.
