Sassony Bryant, 31, came up behind the 52-year-old Old Bridge man and socked him as he tried to hail a cab on Eighth Avenue, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

After being knocked down, the man got up and fled into a nearby store as his assailant followed, continuing to hit him and demanding his cellphone.

PAPD officers arrived quickly and arrested Bryant on charges of assault and attempted robbery, Pentangelo said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Roosevelt Hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his face and elbow, he said.
