New charges in one-punch dad death

It was only a matter of time before charges would be upgraded against a Cliffside Park woman accused of killing her father with one punch. As reported exclusively last month in CLIFFVIEWPILOT, police called to the family home on Aug. 13 arrested Sonia Jecmenica-Castillo, 40, after finding 75-year-old Miodrag Jecmenica unconscious. He died hours later, and a coroner later ruled his death a heart attack brought on by the roundhouse. That officially made it a homicide.

Although she remains free after posting $100,000 bail, a judge ordered Jecmenica-Castillo — now charged with manslaughter — to make other living arrangements. Her elderly mother is now tending to the defendant’s daughter, authorities privately disclosed.

That’s just as well for the family’s Cottage Place neighbors, who said Jecmenica-Castillo and her immigrant parents terrorized their children whenever they tried to play outside.
