Teaneck police said a 49-year-old utility company employee from New Milford wasn't paying attention when his wagon struck and killed 26-year-old Wei Qi Wang outside the university's campus in Teaneck last November.

Carlos A. Poole received a trio of traffic summonses -- for careless driving, failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and having an obstructed view -- in the crash that killed Wei Qi Wang just before 7 a.m. on River Road, Police Chief Robert A. Carney said.

Poole was driving a 2004 Subaru Outback south when it struck Wang, a Chinese national who had recently completed studies at the university's International Relations Graduate School, Carney said.

She underwent emergency surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center but ultimately died of her injuries, the chief said.

"The accident investigation determined that driver inattention was the main contributing factor in the accident," the chief said.
