Fairview Police Nab Egyptian National After Aborted Jewelry Store Robbery

FAIRVIEW, N.J. -- Fairview police arrested an Egyptian national who they said pulled a knife on a local jewelry store owner in a failed robbery attempt.

Officers caught 31-year-old Abraam Shaker across the border in North Bergen around noon Tuesday after the owner chased him off, Capt. Vincent M. Bellucci said.

He was carrying a folding knife used in the attempted holdup, the captain said.

Shaker was being held on $25,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with robbery and possession of a weapon.
