Cliffside Park Sergeant Finds Meaning Of Thanksgiving In Hot Dogs

CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. — What do you think about when you hear "Thanksgiving?" Turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and ... hot dogs?

"I can’t provide a hall of turkey and stuff that goes with it, so for lunchtime I can get them out to have some hot dogs," said Cliffside Park Sgt. Rodney Telleri.

As a part-time hot dog vendor for most of the year, Telleri is giving back the best way he can. At his event, "Don't Be Alone on Thanksgiving," he'll give out free hot dogs for lunch on Thanksgiving day to whoever wants one.

"Whatever reason they choose to come is fine with me. If you come, you’re going to get some hot dogs and something to drink."

At first Telleri thought of seniors or single parents who might be far from the rest of their family.

This is the first time Telleri has held the event. He's not sure how many people will show up, but his gauge for success is not based on raw numbers.

"I might get five people. I might get 500," Telleri said. "If I can feed one family that needs it, that’s satisfying to me."

Sgt. Telleri's "Don't Be Alone For Thanksgiving" will be hosted at The Church of Epiphany, 247 Knox Ave., Cliffside Park.

Hot dogs will be served around lunchtime.
