CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. -- Cliffside Park police who questioned a suspicious-looking man near a downtown street corner said they found him carrying eight bogus checks and marijuana -- leading to his arrest, as well as two more.
Nyquay Shamar Scott, 21, was in the area of Anderson and Lawton avenues around 10:30 p.m. Friday when officers approached him, Police Chief Richard Gaito said.
He'd been trying to deposit checks at Santander Bank, the chief told Daily Voice.
Following Scott's arrest, police followed up and found eight fraudulent credit and gift cards on two other men, Menelik Booker of Lodi and Lance Samaria of Fort Lee, both 18, Gaito said.
A judge ordered Scott, Booker and Samaria held on $15,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail, charged with various fraud and credit cards offenses. Scott also was charged with possession of pot and drug paraphernalia, the chief said.
