CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. -- A Cliffside Park police officer whose suspicions were raised arrested a local man who he said was carrying more than an ounce of pot, a scale and packaging materials in his backpack.
Officer Billy Crapara approached Christopher Tavarez, 26, on Anderson Avenue and Crescent Lane and immediately smelled marijuana, Police Chief Richard Gaito said Friday.
At headquarters, police found a warrant for failing to appear in Secaucus Municipal Court, Gaito said.
Tavarez was charged with possession with the intent to distribute drugs near School #4 and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was ordered held on $15,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
