A relative of Anibal Garcia-Jerez discovered the recordings, confronted him and called authorities, Police Chief Richard Gaito told Daily Voice.
Garcia-Jerez, a Guatemalan national, "found a concealed area in his kitchen that gave him a direct view through the ceiling of the shower in an adjacent apartment," Gaito said.
The girl had no idea what was happening, he added.
Garcia-Jerez was being held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with chlld endangerment, invasion of privacy and tampering with evidence for trying to delete the images, Gaito said.
Addtitional charges were possible pending a more intensive examination of the phone, the chief said.
