The bandit, who fled empty-handed, might have been struck in the arms, said police, who released a surveillance photo in the hopes the public could help find him.

The plucky clerk told police the would-be robber Tuesday night on Anderson Avenue near Delano Place "spoke in Spanish and made specific threats referencing the street gang MS13 and then in English demanded money" before he was scared off.

Fairview police asked that anyone who recognizes the person in the photo or has information that could help the investigation call them (201) 943-2100 or directly in the detective bureau at (201) 943-3655. Tips can also be sent to info@fairviewpd.com.

All tipsters will remain anonymous, they said.
