Support Surges For Teaneck Soldier Following 6-Year-Old Son's Death

TEANECK, N.J. — Support came flowing in for a soldier in the New Jersey National Guard currently serving in Teaneck, after he lost his 6-year-old son following a battle with sickle cell anemia last week.

Debbie Brouwer of Clifton, a nurse and member of AJ's healthcare team, has helped raise more than $2,700 as of Monday morning on a GoFundMe page honoring his life.

He was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia at 8 weeks old, and courageously fought battle after battle ever since.

AJ is survived by his parents, Shanika Romulus and Alex Romulus, a specialist in the National Guard, his baby brother, Avery, and a host of friends and relatives.

All money raised on the GoFundMe will go to outstanding hospital bills and funeral expenses.
