Sam Athanas, 86, Of Edgewater

EDGEWATER, N.J. – Sam Athanas, a resident of Edgewater, died Tuesday, July 26. He was 86.

He was born on March 17, 1930, in Thisvi, Greece.

He was the owner and operator of The Point Diner in Fairview since 1961. He was also president of The Pan Thisvian Society Inc.

He is survived by his children, Tina Giannaros and her husband Arthur and George Athanas and his wife Joanna; grandchildren Samantha, James, Samuel, Thomas and Emilie; great-grandchildren Jillian and Jake; brother Louka and his wife Mary Athanas; along with many family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife, Amelia.

The family will receive their friends Thursday, July 28, from 5-9 p.m., at A.K. Macagna Funeral Home, 495 Anderson Ave., Cliffside Park. The funeral will be Friday, July 29, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at Ascension Green Orthodox Church, Fairview. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery in Paramus.
