CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. — A Cliffside Park teen received the U.S. President's Volunteer Service Award for her 635 hours of work.
Izabela Hasandjekic, 14, has been raising money and awareness for veterans overseas, including hundreds of dollars for School No. 3 through selling “Daddy’s Heart, My Heart, The Purple Heart ,"a book by three Cliffside Park students.
She bought supplies from Target to craft care packages for soldiers overseas, along with several other community service initiatives.
"How can I not be proud?" said Hasandjekic's mother, Mushka. "The best feeling is giving."
The teen, who earned three gold, silver and bronze awards each, is vying for the National American Miss New Jersey Junior Teen crown this weekend.
"Ask not what your county can do for you, but what you can do for your country," Mushka wrote on the photo of the award after posting it on Facebook.
