"Her spirits are good and she's known as the 'social butterfly' already," August Sartor said of his mother, Oriana. "There are clearly signs of mental improvement."
During their last visit, his mother was able to answer three questions she previously couldn't, according to the son.
Back in June, August rushed his mom to Holy Name Medical Center, where she went into cardiac arrest.
"From there, she spent 10 days fighting for her life in Holy Name's intensive care unit, breathing on a ventilator," he said.
August Sartor found out that after Oriana completed her physical therapy, he needed to put his mother in a nursing home, an assisted-living facility or hire a private nurse – none of which he could afford.
Oriana Sartor eventually was admitted to the Kessler Rehabilitation Center in Saddle Brook – but insurance would only cover so much, August said. Plus, there were other bills that needed to be paid out of pocket, he added.
"I hope one day in the near future my mother will be able to comprehend the love and compassion that was given to her these past few months, and that she'll know just how special she is to so many people," the son said.
