The American recording artist, record producer, actress and Edgewater native turns 36 today.
Amerie was born to Korean mother, artist Mi Suk, and African-American father, Charles, a chief warrant officer.
The singer enrolled in Georgetown University to study literature, and was in the Navy ROTC. Currently, Amerie has recorded four albums, with two more in the works. In the movie world, she is best known for her role as Mia Thompson in "First Daughter," co-starring Katie Holmes.
Amerie is married to her manager, Lenny Nicholson.
