The following is a sampling of parades and dedications taking place across Bergen County on Monday, May 30. Feel free to comment on our Facebook page and add any we've missed. You should also check your town's website for parade information.
Allendale: The annual parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. and goes through Main Street, ending at Memorial Park for ceremonies. Hot dogs and soda will be served after at the Allendale Firehouse.
Bergenfield: Support our troops -- and the local BHS Marching Band when the parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. Enjoy the brass quintet performing "Amazing Grace" for the Bergenfield Fire Department service at 10 a.m. with vocalist and trumpet adding to the festvities for the 11:30 a.m. Bergenfield Veteran's ceremony. The parade ends at Memorial Field Borough Hall.
Cliffside Park: Head to Memorial Park at 11 a.m. opposite the municipal building. on Palisade Avenue for a memorial service and celebration sponsored by American Legion Post 126 and the Borough of Cliffside Park. Free refreshments will be served afterwards at the firehouse.
Closter: The Leroy S. Mead Post 111 American Legion, the Closter Elks Lodge 2304 and the Borough of Closter host a service at 8:30 a.m. at the Leroy S. Mead Post 111 (Veterans Monument Park, Herbert Avenue & Closter Dock Rd.). A 9 a.m. Closter Fire Department service also takes place (100 Ruckman Road). All of this before the 10 a.m. parade which begins on Legion Place at High St., ending at Veteran’s Memorial Park where free hot dogs, fries, and soda will be offered.
Edgewater: Edgewater will honor those who died while serving in the armed forces with a Memorial Day Mass at Holy Rosary Church at 9 a.m. with coffee to follow.The veterans will then march from American Legion Hall to Memorial Park, Route 5 and River Road starting at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park with hot dogs served afterwards in the American Legion Hall. In the event of rain, the service will be in the marina building.
Englewood: The annual parade starts at 10 a.m. at Palisades Avenue.
Fair Lawn: Head to River Road at 10 a.m. or follow the parade south to Berdan Avenue, down to Memorial Park.
Hasbrouck Heights: Show your support and wear your red, white and blue when you attend the 10 a.m. parade which starts on Williams and winds along Terrace to Veterans Park. A Veterans service follows.
Ho-Ho-Kus: Line up for the annual parade at 10:30 a.m.on Sheridan and Ardmore Avenue, then enjoy a brief ceremony at the War Memorial on East Franklin Turnpike.
Glen Rock: The American Legion, Post 145, and Thomas D. Egan Veterans of Foreign Affairs, Post 850, will host Memorial Day Services (rain or shine) at Concord Avenue. Marching toward the Rock starts at 10 a.m.where Veterans will fall in. Wreaths will be laid at the Rock and Harding Plaza, followed by a ceremony at the memorial at Harding Plaza.
Lyndhurst: The annual Lyndhurst Memorial Day parade assembles at Town Hall, 367 Valley Brook Ave., at 10:30 a.m. After a brief ceremony, the parade will start at 11 a.m.
Lodi: All are welcome to Lodi's Memorial Day ceremonies. The first starts at 8:45 a.m. at the Ambulance Corps, 72 Kimmig Ave. At 9:l5, a Fire Department ceremony will take place at 99 Kennedy Dr., with a VFW ceremony at 163 Union St. at 10:30 a.m. There will also be an 11:30 a.m.Police Department ceremony at 1 Memorial Dr. A Walkway for Peace ceremony, at 1 Memorial Dr., will immediately follow.
Mahwah: A variety of community groups will march from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Island Road. to Veterans Memorial Park on the corner of Franklin Turnpike and East Ramapo Avenue starting at 10 a.m.
Old Tappan: Veterans are invited to lead the parade assemble in the rear of the high school ending at Oakes Park for a memorial service, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Oradell: The festivities begin at 9 a.m. at the Vietnam Memorial, Memorial Field at the corner of Prospect Ave. and Park Ave. Following the ceremonies.refreshments will be served by members of the Special Events Committee at Senior Center/Veterans Memorial building.
Rochelle Park: The parade starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Mack Blog on W. Passaic St. and ends at the American Legion grounds where there will be music, refreshments and clowns.
Rutherford: The Rutherford Veterans’ Alliance sponsors the annual Memorial Day parade, which begins at 9:30 a.m. This year’s theme will be “March in Memory of Veterans Who Gave Their Lives in All Wars and Conflicts.”
Waldwick: The annual parade starts at 10 a.m. on Mackay Avenue, goes south on Franklin Turnpike, turns on East Prospect Street, and ends at the public safety building.
Woodcliff Lake: The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Montvale Firehouse with Grand Marshall Robert Doxey, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps in WWII.
Wood-Ridge: The annual parade starts from the corner of Hackensack St. and Highland Ave. at 11:30 a.m. ending at Veterans Park where festivities will include free hot dogs and ice cream, as well as strolling musicians, military vehicle rides, plus the involvement from many area merchants.
Wyckoff: Get ready to wave your flags at the annual parade where, starting at the Cornerstone Christian Church at 11:30 a.m. you'll see antique military vehicles, civic organizations, marching bands, veteran and military color guards and Veterans of Foreign Wars. A Veteran's Memorial service takes place before the festivities at 10 am.
