EDGEWATER, N.J. — Stressed commuters may dream of a weekend getaway in a faraway place, but instead of flying across the world they could drive to Edgewater's SoJo Spa Club.
SoJo's General Manager, Atif Youssef, has lived in Bergen County for most of his life, he currently lives in Rutherford. Youssef said he's been happy to see Edgewater utilize empty plots for new businesses.
"I remember driving on river road — there was nothing there," Youssef said. "From the Lincoln Tunnel to George Washington Bridge, that area has really turned around 180 degrees."
SoJo is primarily a spa but also plans to open two hotel floors that can accommodate 32 guests. The hotel is estimated to open in Spring, potentially as soon as late March.
The spa takes advantage of its close proximity to the Hudson river and designed key parts of the experience to overlook the New York City skyline, such as the infinity pool located on the top floor.
Youssef said he can envision guests spending a whole day at the spa while staying in one of the hotel rooms.
SoJo specifically hopes to run shuttles to nearby airports so travelers can enjoy a day at the spa before leaving for a flight the next day.
SoJo Spa will have discounted rates for its grand opening period. More information about the full extent of SoJo's saunas, hydrotherapy pools, lounges and more can be found on their website .
